A 37-year-old Hutchinson man who says he was just released from prison is now jailed once again for aggravated battery and criminal damage.
Michael Keaton is alleged to have choked someone to the point that they lost consciousness and also caused criminal damage to property. This occurring on Friday.
But in court, he says he doesn’t remember anything that happened and blames it on his medication which he says caused an allergic reaction.
Keaton wanted his bond reduced, but the state opposed reminding Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen that he has a substantial criminal history. Keaton noted that he has no convictions for anything aggravated. But, his priors include unlawful manufacturing, possession of drugs obstruction and driving while suspended from the case where he was just released from prison. Earlier felonies include burglary, forgery, trafficking in contraband inside a correctional facility and possession of drug paraphernalia for cases in both Pratt and Reno Counties.
Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen denied the request for a bond reduction and left it at 5-thousand 250-dollars. Not that it matters because he apparently has a parole hold with the Kansas Department of Corrections. He’ll be back in court on Wednesday for a status hearing in the case.
