WICHITA, Kan. – A nation-wide bail bond scam has hit Sedgwick County, according to Sheriff officials there.
They say that recently, a woman who bonded out of the Sedgwick County Jail was contacted by someone named Monica who was calling from a number with a California area code. “Monica” told the woman that more money needed to be paid for the bond by way of Western Union or her bond would be revoked and she would be booked back in to jail. The lady immediately called the original bonding company and determined that this was a scam.
This bail bond scam has happened in other counties in Kansas as well as across the United States. Anyone who gets a call like this should contact their original bonding company to ensure that they don’t pay money that they don’t owe.
