A 44-year-old Hutchinson man convicted in two drug cases was granted 18-months community corrections Wednesday, but will have a 80-month sentence hanging over his head.
That was the sentence for Arlander McAbee. He was convicted in two cases for possession of cocaine, both being the primary offenses in each case.
The first case occurring over a year ago on April 5, 2012. In that case, he was not only charged with the possession of cocaine, he was also charged with felony theft, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package and no tax stamp. Allegedly, officers found 21-individual packages containing a white rock substance, later determined to be crack cocaine. They also allegedly found packaging materials as well.
The other case goes back to August 2, 2012, when he was again caught with the drugs with no tax stamp.
He was given 40-months on the two cocaine charges with the sentences for the other convictions running concurrent to the cocaine charges. The judge then ran two cases consecutive to each other for the 80-month sentence.
But, again McAbee was granted the 18-months community corrections.
