Local unemployment rates increase slightly

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The latest numbers from the Kansas Department of Labor show the unemployment rates in both Hutchinson and Reno County increased slightly in June.

The rate for Hutchinson is now at 4.9 percent, up from 4.6 percent in May. It’s also slightly higher than June of last year when the rate was 4.7.

The rate for Reno County is at 4.5 percent in June, up from 4.4 percent in May and virtually the same as June of last year.

In Reno County, there are 1,419 residents without work, 951 of those in the city of Hutchinson.

The surrounding counties either saw slight increases or no change from May to June.

The state’s June seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was at 4.5 percent, up from 4.4 percent in May but unchanged from June 2014.
