HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Another item up for discussion at the Tuesday County Commission meeting was the request to designate two roads in the northern part of the county as part of the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail.
That would include starting in the west part of the county along 95th going through Nickerson then along 82nd to Plum Street, north to 95th, then south on Medora Road where it then curves and becomes 82nd. The route would then go past Buhler and eventually into Harvey County.
Commissioner Brad Dillon questioned why this road and what the purpose would be. Sid Arpin with BG Consultants says once designated as part of the trail, it would allow those riding across the area to know where they can gain services such as a place to stay.
The request being made by Jeff Bowles from Topeka who is with Kansas Bike Walk.
Commissioner Dan Deming suggested referring this idea to the recently put together bicycle committee for their consideration and recommendations. It would then come back to the commission at a later time. That was approved by all three commissioners.
