HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Just like the city, the county will also consider changes to an agreement with Siemens for a new development in the Kansas Enterprise Industrial Park where Siemens is located.
Under the current agreement, the company has the option to purchase additional parcels of land, but the city and local Chamber of Commerce determined that they need a parcel for a new company that may develop that property only known as “Project X.”
Siemens option to purchase those additional parcels of land expires on Oct. 28, however they have expressed interest in the parcel of land wanted for “Project X.” But, they have now indicated that they would assist in any job producing project, including one wanting to build at that location and is willing to release its option under certain conditions.
That would include the 2,200 foot tail storage/ staging spur track paralleling the current rail spur. Funding would include the city of Hutchinson and Siemens putting up $200,000 each. The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber would put up $100,000 and the other half would come from the Kansas Department of Transportation. Any additional costs over the estimated $1,000,000 would be split between Siemens and KDOT.
Neither the county nor the city of South Hutchinson would not be impacted at all, but because they were a part of the original agreement, they have to sign off on the amendment to Siemens development agreement. They will take up that decision during their meeting Tuesday morning.
