BUHLER, Kan. — Some major improvements are in the future for the city of Buhler and USD 313 if both parties can come to an agreement on how to build and pay for them. The city and School district have been meeting for several months now to discuss the future of the district’s and community’s athletic facilities and how they can share in their use and cost.
Under the long list of proposals, the school district would get new artificial turf for both soccer and football, a new eight-lane track, new parking south of the football field and new tennis courts. It would also include a bigger press box and new bleachers for the football stadium. The biggest change would be at the city park where a new baseball and softball complex would be constructed. That would move high school baseball from Prairie Hills Middle School back to the city of Buhler. The park would also get a new wellness center that would be leased by the city from the school district.
The total cost of the projects is estimated at more than $8.1 million. Superintendent Mike Berblinger says the district and city are working to come up with funding that would make the proposal financially feasible. The School district is already in the middle of paying off a $44.9 million bond issue that made improvements to the districts existing buildings and the construction of a new elementary school.
