Jury trial in kidnapping case scheduled to begin Tuesday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Jury selection for a 32-year-old Hutchinson man charged with kidnapping is scheduled to get under way Tuesday morning.
Todd Lloyd is accused of holding his girlfriend at knife point in front of several police officers after he tried to elude community corrections officers who wanted him taken into custody on a violation from an earlier case.
Hutchinson Police Sgt. Eric Buller testified at the preliminary hearing that he was ready to shoot Lloyd in the head during the standoff, but couldn’t get a clean shot. At one time, police ordered the victim to drop down so they could shoot Lloyd, at which time he dropped the knife. He was then tased by police and taken into custody.
The victim in the case also testified, but told the court that she was shielding her boyfriend from police and that she was never being held against her will.
This kidnapping case reportedly occurred back on April 23.
Lloyd had been on community corrections for a felony flee and elude case that goes back to August of 2011.

Hutch man waives hearing in sexual exploitation case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 23-year-old man facing a charge of sexual exploitation of a child waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday in front of Judge Joe McCarville.
Derek Hendrickson of Hutchinson is accused of possessing a visual depiction of a child under the age of 18, shown engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The crime occurred between Feb. 3 and March 14, 2014, here in Hutchinson.
Police often monitor child porn exchange sites and discovered that Hendrickson may have downloaded images from a site being monitored. That led to a search warrant being served on his home and his computer on March 14. They then say they found the image or images and that led to his arrest.
With him waiving a preliminary hearing, Judge Joe McCarville entered a “not guilty” plea or the defendant and the case now goes before Judge Tim Chambers for a future pretrial hearing.
