HUTCHINSON. Kan. — The Reno County Commission approved spending money for some items for the new detention facility. Sheriff Randy Henderson says as the walls to the jail are going up, it’s now time to order to make the installation easier.
That includes the 500 phone system, digital and analog, with 32 standard phones, two digital wireless and one Polycom conference phone. That would be from Communications Technology Association at a cost of $25,353.50.
Also included is the 800 radio system bio-directional amplifier to amplify the sheriff department radios to talk outside the facility. This item comes from Mobile Radio Service at a cost of $26,547.09.
They also want to purchase an I-record Vi professional recording network to record audio and visual with storage and backup. This would be used for interviews with inmates during criminal investigations. Sheriff Henderson says they don’t know if the one they use now records properly. This comes from Voice Products Inc. at a cost of $21,071.05.
Finally included is ten visitation Kiosks which cost around $995 each. These would be used for the visitors room. These items would be purchased from Turnkey Corrections at a cost of $9,950.
Total cost for all these items comes to $82,921.64. Sherriff Henderson says this would come from what he called the soft-cost funds for the building of the new jail.
He also talked of the need to purchase furniture for the new facility, but thought it wise to hold off awhile because of the lack of storage.
The county had budgeted $400,000 for the soft fund as they call it.
