HUTCHINSON. Kan. — The USD 308 School Board approved a resolution Monday, that could save district taxpayers about $450,000 over the next nine years.
The Board approved a resolution authorizing the first step for refinancing a portion of the 2006 bond issue. Voters approved the largest bond issue in district history in 2006 with construction completed five years later.
The district is allowed to refinance a portion of the bonds each year when rates fall enough to justify the costs associated with the refinancing.
During her superintendent’s report, Dr. Shelly Kiblinger told board members the district’s preliminary FTE (full-time equivalency) for students is 4,786.4 students in 2014-15, down 35.1 students from 2013-14. FTE represents full time students in the district. Actual headcount this year was up 30.
