Second suspect in attempted robbery case bound over for trial

[ By FRED GOUGH ]

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The woman with a 50-year-old Hutchinson man who attempted to steal a recruiter’s bag containing a government computer has been bound over for trial.

25-year-old Moriah Gandolph is alleged to have been the one who set the recruiter up, saying she wanted to join the military.

The case with her and Jose Vasquez goes back to February 7, when a local recruiter apparently went into the McDonald’s at 4th & Walnut to meet a potential female recruit. Sgt. Stephen Casper says he waited at the restaurant for about 10-15 minutes and the female was a no show, so he sent a text to her and then left. She sent a text back saying she had been in the restroom the whole time, so he came back and parked along Walnut just east of the restaurant. As he was exiting his vehicle, he placed the strap of the backpack containing an army computer over his left shoulder. It was then that a man and woman approached him. Later identified as Vasquez and Gandolph. Vasquez is accused of demanding the bag. Sgt. Casper wasn’t sure what he said and asked “what?” Vasquez then allegedly tried to grab the strap of the bag. Sgt. Casper then kneed Vasquez in the upper thigh where he then fell to the ground. He says he then left and made a police report.

Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen found probable cause for the attempted robbery charge as well as a new charge of conspiracy to commit robbery which was added by the state at the end of the preliminary hearing.

She’ll be arraigned by Judge Tim Chambers in early September.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —  The preliminary hearing for Raymond Kimball was continued again Wednesday after it became apparent in court that the defendant had not been given any information about negotiating for a plea.Raymond-Kimball-2-150x150

Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton had mentioned that in court and the defendant apparently had not been told that they could enter into negotiations with the state. So the case was continued again.

Kimball is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package and no drug tax stamp. Drug Unit Detectives say they found a white rocky substance, green leafy vegetation, a digital scale, and new and used packaging inside the home. The white rocky substance tested positive for cocaine and weighed about 25 grams. The green leafy substance field tested for marijuana and weighed about 4.3 grams.

He was arrested with 24-year-old Holly Caudillo. A hearing for the charges against her are also pending.

Kimball is currently in prison on a parole violation for another case.
