HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Although the County Commission didn’t spend a lot of time on next year’s budget, it did get a presentation Tuesday from County Administrator Gary Meagher. It showed the mill levy for next year would increase 1 mill from 38.603 to 39.603 mills. He accounted for the increase to address some of the road issues in the county.
He says valuations were up, going from $534 million to $550 million, which means about $15,000 more per mill.
He also explained some of the numbers included any step increases for employees and department heads and how they accounted for adding four additional jail guards this year and adding four more next year as we get closer to the new jail facility opening.
The commission will go into more detail with suggestions on the budget next week.
