Dominic Vargas 3

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After a one week delay, the sentencing for a 35-year-old Hutchinson man who entered guilty pleas in three cases back in May is scheduled again for Friday

The latest case against Dominic Vargas started when a trooper says he observed Vargas driving and knew him to be an absconder and had warrants for his arrest. He was seen driving in the area of the 900 block of West 4th. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle and Vargas allegedly refused to pull over. Officers with the Hutchinson Police assisted the trooper with the chase around Hutchinson. At some point during pursuit, Vargas struck a patrol car.

He then abandoned the vehicle in the 100 block of East 10th and fled on foot and went into a residence in the 100 block of East 11th. Officers set up a perimeter and were able to negotiate with the occupants of that residence to exit the house after about an hour. Four people exited the house and were detained. One of the occupants was Vargas and he was placed under arrest.

The other convictions are for possession of meth, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction, possession of mushrooms, possession of K-2 or synthetic marijuana, felony flee and elude, interference with law enforcement, as well as a number of other misdemeanor traffic offenses.

The two cases involving drugs go back to April of 2013 and September of 2012.
