HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The city of Hutchinson may be ready to turn over control of the two major ball park facilities to the Hutchinson Recreation Commission.
The City Council will take action on a proposed interim agreement with Hutch Rec to take over operations of Fun Valley and Hobart Detter Field for the remainder of the summer. The agreement would give total control of the two sports venues over to the rec commission, including supervision of personnel, scheduling of events, collection of fees and maintenance. The contract also provides for the city’s use of the facilities and insurance requirements.
City Attorney Paul Brown says the city wanted to tap into the rec commission’s expertise in running the facilities. Fun Valley has been operating without a head manager for some time, and has been using its regular staff to operate the facility, most of which are seasonal employees. Brown says if the plan works out well for the rest of the summer, the city and commission may enter into an annual contract.
The matter comes up for discussion during Tuesday’s City Council meeting set for 9 a.m. at the city offices.
