HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 27-year-old Hutchinson man who had been under supervision for failing to register as a sex offender in 2012, and also the conviction for indecent liberties with a child for a case that goes back to 2008 was ordered to prison Thursday for violation of his community corrections.
Kenneth Alan Socha had been arrested again for failing to register as a sex offender, bonded out but then failed to report to his corrections officer leading to him being listed as an absconder. The failure to register allegedly occurring back in January. Judge Joe McCarville found there was probable cause in this case and Socha will be arraigned on that single charge next month.
Judge McCarville then found he had violated his corrections and because he failed to report to his corrections officer decided they couldn’t do anymore for him and ordered the 58-month sentence in the two earlier cases be served. He noted that the defendant had 5-previous corrections violations.
But, its gets worse for Socha. He still has a drug case pending with charges that includes possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of K-2, or synthetic marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. That case is still pending a jury trial.
That case starts with an arrest and detain order issued for an earlier violation of his community corrections. Officers went to his home in the 100 block of North Chemical and they ended up doing a search of his residence and allegedly found the drugs.
There are two residences at that location, one is in what appears to be a garage, while the other is the regular home. Socha lived in the one that looked like a garage, but did have access to the home where he took showers and also stored some food.
He could be looking at more time in prison in the drug case, and a substantial amount of time in prison if convicted of failing to register as a sex offender a second time. Senior Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell says it could be another 10-years.
