A Hutchinson man has been charged with attempted robbery for allegedly trying to grab a shoulder bag from an army recruiter.
It happened back on February 7, when the recruiter apparently went into the McDonald’s at 4th & Walnut and when he came out he was confronted by Jose Vasquez who demanded the recruiters bag, apparently thinking there may be money. Vasquez apparently grabbed the bag and the recruiter, Stephen Casper then kicked the suspect in the upper thigh where he then fell to the ground. He then ran off, but was captured by police.
In court Friday morning, Vasquez requested a reduction of the 5-thousand dollar bond. That was denied by Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen. He also has a probation violation, so his actual bond according to the jail log is 55-thousand dollars.
The case is now transferred to the court of Judge Joe McCarville as part of the waiver-status docket.
