The Hutchinson City Council gave approval Tuesday to a bid for the repairs which will be done to a rural portion of the city’s levee system. The city is in charge of the entire levee system both in and out of the city.
When the county refused to assist in paying for the needed repairs for the rural portion of the system, the city decided that they would not fund the necessary improvements to keep the levee within FEMA standards. That led to a group of property owners drumming up support for a special assessment on their property to help pay for the repairs.
The city Tuesday approved the bid from Alan’s Excavating for a total of 273-thousand, 313-dollars.
Also after much delay, and much more discussion Tuesday, the final plat for a new entertainment center at 23 rd & Lorraine was approved. Work was supposed to have already started on the bowling alley and other venues at that location, but the project has been tied up in the city planning process.
The City Council also approved a special sewer extension for the Inverness Apartments along Severance between 17th & 23rd, for a cost of 60-thousand dollars.
