The County Commission approved adding 4-way stop signs at the intersection of 43rd & Lorraine after the county conducted a study at the request of the Buhler School District. They had concerns for a traffic at that intersection once the new Plum Creek Elementary School is open west of that intersection.
A study by B-G Consultants showed that a four-way stop could be added but based on the study would not be required. There was no criteria for adding lights at the intersection according to the report.
Commissioner Brad Dillon was opposed to adding the four-way citing the fact that there were only 9-accidents at the intersection in 5-years. He worried about making those traveling north and south on Lorraine having to stop. He says he believes it could be left as is, for now.
But the other two commissioners were in favor of going ahead and making the change now. Commissioner Dan Deming saying he would rather be pro-active now, then reactive.
They approved the change on a 2-1 vote.
The commission also approved seeking a number of grants from the Kansas Department of Health & Environment totaling more then 415-thousand dollars with a county match of 175-thousand dollars.
They also approved the new contract for medical services for the county jail. The cost is 18-hundred dollars per year, then 25-dollars per inmate visit.
