A 31-year-old man already facing trial for aggravated battery made a first appearance Monday on potential new charges including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated burglary and criminal possession of a firearm. James “Jonathon Allen” Dean appeared in front of Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen on this matter.
As we told you last Friday, it apparently started early Friday when James “Jonathon Allen” Dean allegedly went to a Hutchinson home over his thought that a local man may have stolen his girlfriends gun. Dean was struck with a bat by a third individual police didn’t identify. Dean then went to his home, grabbed a bat and came back to the home of 50-year-old David Crossman, where he allegedly entered the home uninvited, forced the victim from the home and then began beating him with his bat. This occurring in the 1300 block of East 3rd.
Both men were taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment and Dean was then taken to jail where his bond has been sent at 116-thousand, 500-dollars. Some of the hair of the victim was found on the bat according to Robertson. Crossman was also taken to jail on a separate matter
Dean also appeared before Judge Trish Rose Monday morning where he informed her that he would attempt to hire another attorney for the case before her after it was learned that the law license of the attorney he had was suspended.
In that case, the crimes allegedly occurring during a party in the early morning hours of August 4, 2013. The victim in that case, Jeffrey Kinney had gone to a neighbors home to return a dog and then asked if he could go four wheeling in the homeowners back field. Dean decided he wanted to go along. During the drive to the field is when Dean allegedly stabbed Kinney three times, on his hand, in his stomach area and also on the left side of his chest. He says Dean then pushed him from his own truck, with the truck then running over him. The victim then says he then ran toward where the others at the party were at.
Judge Rose set another hearing for March 21, on that case and he’ll also be back before Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen for a status hearing once the state files formal charges in the latest case.
