James Dean

A 31-year-old man bound over for trial for aggravated battery is scheduled to be in court Friday morning where the judge may set a trial date or learn if there are any plea negotiations in the case.

The case against James “Jonathon Allen” Dean allegedly occurred during a party in the early morning hours of August 4.

The victim, Jeffrey Kinney testified at the preliminary hearing to coming to a neighbors home to return a dog and then asked if he could go four wheeling in the home owners back field. It was then that Dean apparently decided he wanted to go along. During the drive to the field is when Dean allegedly stabbed him three times, on his hand, in his stomach area and also on the left side of his chest. He says they had no real conversation prior to the incident. He says Dean then pushed him from his own truck, with the truck then running over him. He says he then ran toward where the others at the party were at.

It was around 2:15 a-m, when Reno County Sheriff’s Deputies and Reno County EMS were dispatched to 11-thousand block of East 30th for the report of the stabbing. That led to Dean’s arrest.

Dean is no stranger to law enforcement having been convicted and served time in prison for aggravated robbery in McPherson County in 2002 and attempted theft in Harvey County in 2003.

The hearing Friday is scheduled in front of Judge Tim Chambers.
