A winter storm will affect the region this weekend, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain across much of Kansas. The heaviest snow is expected to fall in a band from Great Bend through Topeka and areas east. A wintery mix is expected across south-central and southeast Kansas. The precipitation should begin during the early afternoon hours of Saturday and continue into Sunday evening.

Tonight: Partly cloudy early in the evening then becoming mostly cloudy. Not as cold. Lows near 30. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

Friday: Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of rain and freezing rain in the morning. Highs 45 to 50. South winds 5 to 15 mph becoming northwest 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy. Colder. Lows 15 to 20. North winds 10 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 25 mph in the evening.

Saturday: Cloudy. A 20 percent chance of light freezing rain in the afternoon. Colder. Highs near 30. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday Night: Cloudy. A chance of light freezing rain and sleet in the evening…then light freezing rain and sleet likely after midnight. Light snow accumulations. Ice accumulation of less than one quarter of an inch. Lows 10 to 15. North winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 25 mph. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
