The Reno County Commission approved security for the NCAA Golf Tourney coming to Prairie Dunes in May. The cost to the county would be minimal and would consist of one paid officer working at the tournament at a cost of around 67-hundred dollars. The county would also provide 2-3 volunteers. County Administrator Gary Meagher says that if an officer is needed during the overnight hours, that cost would be paid by Prairie Dunes.
The officer would need to be there from around 7 a-m, to 9 p-m, each day. The city of Hutchinson is also assisting with officers for security with the city council approving their part of it last week.
Scott Nelson, the General Manager of Prairie Dunes was at the meeting and says he expects that there could be a thousand to 15-hundred spectators each day during the event. He also stated that 230 motel rooms have been reserved for the teams and another 80 for the Golf Channel, a cable network that covers golf tourney’s across the country.
The commission also approved the purchase of four 2014 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor SUV’s from Midwest Ford at a purchase price after trade of 95-thousand, 612-dollars. They also approved the purchase of a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 4-by-4 crew cab truck from Laird Nollar for a price after trade of 9-thousand, 458-dollars. All of these vehicles going to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office.
