The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to two house fires Tuesday afternoon.
The first was at 611 East 11th. Upon arrival, they found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the garage area. Fire Chief Kim Forbes says the garage was on fire and had damage to the back wall.
The fire was controlled in 15-minutes with units on scene for about two hours. Preliminary damage is estimated was set at 10-thousand dollars. Damage was sustained in the garage and the attic of the residence.
The cause of the fire appears to be careless smoking. The residence is occupied by two adults and a pet, but we were told at the scene that no one was in the home at the time of the fire. The Red Cross was called in to assist. No one was injured in the fire.
