The Hutchinson Fire Department, Hutchinson Police Department and the Reno County Sheriff’s Office will “battle” to see who can bring in the most blood donors. Community members who donate blood can vote for their favorite group. The winning agency gets bragging rights for the year as well as a traveling trophy.

January can be a particularly difficult time to collect blood due to inclement winter weather and seasonal illnesses. Blood donors of all types are currently needed, especially O negative, A negative and B negative.

Hutchinson Battle of the Badges community blood drive:

Jan. 20 from noon to 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson
Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson
Jan. 22 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson
Jan. 24 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Dollar Sense, 1301 N. Main, Hutchinson
Jan. 26 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Walmart, 1905 E. 17th, Hutchinson

Throughout National Blood Donor Month this January, the Red Cross is celebrating the lifesaving contribution blood donors make to modern health care. This month is a special time to highlight the importance of giving blood and to honor past and present donors who have rolled up a sleeve to help patients in need.

How to donate blood
Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.
