Hutch Man Now Has Four Cases Pending In District Court

A 22-year-old Hutchinson man who appeared in court two weeks ago on charges which included aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer was back in court Wednesday where he was read the compliant on new charges.

The state has now charged Michael Morgan with felony theft for allegedly stealing a enclosed tandem axle trailer that belonged to Mid-West Seamless Guttering, for being in possession of stolen property, for being in possession of a Chevy pickup that he allegedly knew was stolen from Rider Auto Sales and criminal damage to property, that being a fence belonging to Midwest Seamless Guttering. These crimes allegedly occurring on December 14.

In the earlier case, he had allegedly tangled with police in the 600 block of East 1st. In this case, he’s charged with aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, felony interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, burglary, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft of services or property and criminal damage. He allegedly threatened the officer with a knife on December 19.

He also has a third case pending which includes charges of possession of methamphetamine, felony flee and elude, and possession of drug paraphernalia for a case that goes back to August 6, 2013.

The fourth case includes four counts of non-residential burglary, burglary of a dwelling and two counts of misdemeanor theft. These crimes on July 26, and August 1, 2013.

Morgan has been on community corrections for drugs and theft. He says all of these issues are due to his drug addiction. Two weeks ago in court, he admitted he needed help with his drug addiction. He’s scheduled for a probation violation on this case on Friday morning in front of Judge Trish Rose.

His attorney Alice Osburn asked for a preliminary hearing date for all four cases during the waiver-status docket in front of Judge Joe McCarville Wednesday. The judge set February 27th, as the date for a preliminary hearing on all four pending cases.

Morgan is jailed on bonds now totaling 54-thousand, 750-dollars.
