A 22-year-old Hutchinson man who apparently failed to appear in other cases was in court Monday on new charges. This after he tangled with police in the 600 block of East 1st.
Michael Morgan who is on community corrections for drugs and theft told the judge that he needs help with his drug problem and complained that he’s not getting the help he needs. He says all of these issues are due to his drug addiction.
He’s charged with aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, felony interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, burglary, possession of mushrooms, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal damage. He allegedly threatened the officer with a knife.
He also complained that he didn’t want Attorney Alice Osburn who has represented him or is representing him in other cases, saying she hasn’t done a good job for him, but Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen denied his request for a new attorney, even though he indicated that he would no longer cooperate with her.
He’s jailed on a total bond of 38-thousand, 750-dollars, with the bond on the new charges set at 17-thousand. The bond was left the same.
