HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission approved a letter of support for the Transportation Alternatives Program for 2017-2018 funding that will provide for bus stop shelters to be placed in Hutchinson and South Hutchinson. This will be for the Rcat fixed route bus shelter project.
If the grant is awarded and put into place, the county would agree to provide adequate maintenance of the Rcat shelters for public use for a minimum of 20 years.
They also approved a resolution reappointing Brad Wright as the Reno County Appraiser for a four-year term beginning July 1 and running through June 30, 2021. Wright has been the appraiser since 2014. Both Commissioners Dan Deming and Ron Hirst commented that they are pleased with the way Wright handles questions of the public when they have questions over their evaluations.
They also approved a revision to the violence in the workplace policy that concerned matching county policy with state law. One thing that took some time to figure out was whether the commission can restrict open carry of employees when they are on duty and outside in the field doing their jobs. After some research, County Counselor Joe O’Sullivan says it’s his opinion that they can.
The request from District Attorney Keith Schroeder to upgrade a part-time administrative associate position to full time was continued one more week because Commissioner Bob Bush was not present.
