HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The U.S.D. 308 School Board formally closed out the 2016-17 school year Monday. Final budget transfers and end-of-year work for the district were completed.
Officials say they avoid overspending from year to year and, with thousands of budget lines, small amounts of money are often left in those lines. These small amounts must be transferred to areas that can have a carryover or the district loses its ability to spend the money.
Additionally, they say the district also has to transfer money into funds — such as special education — that don’t receive federal dollars until after Oct. 1 to fund those programs temporarily.
The board also received a fundraiser report for the 2016-17 school year. About $253,000 was raised for the district schools by various fundraising events, which was $9,000 more than in 2015-16.
They also approved the Reno County Head Start/Early Head Start supplemental grant application and the Early Head Start Inter-agency Agreement with the Reno County Health Department to provide prenatal services. A program agreement between Head Start and ABC Counseling, LLC, to provide services was also approved.
They also set July 8 as the annual retreat for the Board at the Administration Center. This will occur from 8 to 11 a.m. that day.
