One of three people arrested on July 17, after the Reno County Drug Unit served a search warrant on a home at 1016 North Van Buren saw two cases against him continued while he waived his right to a preliminary hearing and entered a “not guilty” plea in a third.

Shane Kinast was also ordered to the county jail for 340-days on a fourth case after he failed to comply with his probation for DUI.

Kinast had been arrested along with Dwayne Porting and Elisha Bozarth in the July case after officers allegedly found a bag on the couch of the home on Van Buren that contained a small zip-lock bag with a crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Also in the bag was more zip-lock bags and a digital scale.

Kinast also claimed he purchased a 22-caliber handgun which the state alleges was stolen from Butler County and found in his home. He claims he had no knowledge of the gun being stolen. The state asked for a continuance in this case because of not getting KBI Lab reports on the drugs.

A case where he’s charged with interference with law enforcement was continued because his attorney Sam Kepfield had not received any discovery from his former attorney after Kepfield was assigned the case.

He entered the “not guilty” plea where he was busted for possession of methamphetamine. He’ll be arraigned on that charge in early January in front of Judge Tim Chambers.
