A Motor vehicle deer accident Wednesday afternoon set one person to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment.

It occurred at 95th and Netherland when a 2013 Buick Lacrosse driven by 82-year-old Stanley Haynes was west bound just east of Netherland Rd., when a deer came out of the south ditch and struck the front of his vehicle. He said that he never saw the deer until they hit it.

Stanley said he was not injured but he was bleeding from his left cheek from where the side airbag had hit him. His 82-year-old wife Norma was having difficulty breathing but was talking with Reno County Sheriff Deputy Matt Franklin. She kept telling the deputy she needed oxygen and that she didn’t have her oxygen tank with her. At one point she became unresponsive, so the deputy removed her from the car and laid her on the ground. He was about ready to start CPR when she started breathing again. He says her breathing was labored but that she had a strong pulse. He covered her with blankets until Rice County EMS arrived. They transported her to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Both were wearing seat-belts when the accident occurred.

The accident occurring around 3:45 p-m.
