One of the six suspects in the attempted murder of a Hutchinson man will be sentenced at a later date. Joseph LeShore had been scheduled for sentencing Friday afternoon but that was continued after he was granted a new attorney.
He had Wichita Attorney Alice Osburn and now has local attorney Shannon Crane who now needs time to be brought up to speed with his case.
LeShore had entered a plea to an amended charge of attempted 2nd degree murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and aggravated battery. He admitted in court his involvement in the beating and stabbing of Jeffrey Payne.
Another of the six, Desmund Cantu entered guilty pleas in two cases, one of which involved the attempted murder and was sentenced to 84-months total or 7-years in prison. Cantu had earlier entered guilty pleas to aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated burglary and aggravated assault. All other charges including attempted 1st degree murder were dropped by the state as part of a plea agreement.
The other four charged in this case includes John Cantu, Sean Arevalo-Mendoza, Jordon LeShore and Troy Bell.
The attack on Payne occurred back on February 18, when these men allegedly broke into his home and physically attacked and stabbed him numerous times in the leg and torso.
The motive for the attack I allegedly over an incident involving the LeShore brothers mother where she may have been slapped so hard, she was knocked down. But, prosecutors say it wasn’t Payne who committed this act.
