Each year, Hutchinson Head Start and Early Head Start families give back to their communities during regular “Day of Caring” events. The first Day of Caring event for 2013-14 will be at
9 a-m, Sept. 18 between Hutchinson and Nickerson on K-96.
That day, the parent volunteers will pick up trash on the highway at its Adopt-a-Highway area.
The Day of Caring events are designed to help young families provide positive role models and pass along family values to their children, help develop skills, enhance volunteer resumes, gain work experience, meet new people and make a difference in the life of someone else.
Other Day of Caring events will be at the Christian Soup Kitchen in Hutchinson on Nov. 7, Christmas caroling at Sunrise Acres on Dec. 12, volunteering at Kansas Kids Museum on Jan. 21, helping set up for the Cancer Council of Reno County Reno Roundup on Feb. 7 and a return visit to the Adopt-a-Highway site on April 21.
