HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 28-year-old woman who got her vehicle stuck, then allegedly stole a city vehicle and getting it stuck has been formally charged by the state.

Tawny Lochmann is now charged with felony theft, burglary and criminal damage to property.

It was back on May 4 when was apparently driving in the 3900 block of South Halstead, somehow ending up in a field where her vehicle became stuck. She apparently couldn’t get any cell phone reception, so she began walking toward the city of Hutchinson sewage treatment plant. The gates to the facility were locked, but she managed to find a space where she could squeeze through. She walked building to building, but didn’t find anyone around, so she allegedly went inside a garage and found a city truck with the keys left inside.

She allegedly drove the truck from the garage and rammed a gate, breaking the padlock and drove toward where her vehicle was. She apparently couldn’t figure out how to get the truck into four wheel drive and got it stuck in the mud as well.

The Sheriff’s Office was contacted and she was arrested. She didn’t appear in court as expected with a local attorney supposedly entering his appearance in the case, however Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen was not told that happened until she was told by a bonding agent in court.

Her case will now proceed now to a future waiver-status docket.
