Hutch man with substantial criminal history busted again

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 39-year-old Hutchinson man already on community corrections for a number of crimes was arrested again Tuesday on drug charges.

Michael J. Appello was apparently acting suspicious when he spotted a Hutchinson Police officer while walking near a car wash in the 1400 block of East 4th. The officer decided to stop the man to see what was going on.

Appello then allegedly dropped a jacket he had been wearing and the officer noticed a baggie sticking out that appeared to have drugs. That led to a search and they discovered pills and some methamphetamine as well as used syringes.

Potential charges include possession of methamphetamine, possession of deppresents and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Appello is on corrections for possession of drugs with intent to distribute within a thousand feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to plant or grow illegal drugs as well as personal use drug paraphernalia, no tax stamp, criminal use of weapon and possession of stimulants for convictions in 2013, However, the actual crimes occurring in 2011.

He has other convictions for unlawful manufacturing, flee or attempt to elude law enforcement, fasley reporting a crime and possessing drug paraphernalia. Those crimes occurring in 1997 and 2003.

In court, he was able to convince Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen to lower the bond to $5,000.

He’ll be back in court for the reading or any formal charges on May 4.
