HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission Tuesday made quick work of its agenda including a resolution that pertains to open burning in the county, which establishes requirements, restrictions and prohibited acts. This resolution would rescind a previous resolution from 2011. That item was on the agenda as a study session item only and will be voted on next week.

Other items on the agenda pertain to Reno County Drug Court. One would include an agreement with Wichita State University to assist in developing a separate non-profit organization for the program at a cost of $5,700. The other will include a contract with the Center for Learning Tree Institute for Drug Court collection data and reporting at an annual cost of $23,216. All of the cost is from grant money, so no county tax dollars are being spent.

They appointed District Attorney Keith Schroeder as a special prosecutor for the purpose of prosecuting violations of Reno County codes or resolutions that would be considered misdemeanors. Those cases would go through District Court. County Administrator Gary Meagher noted that Schroeder was glad to help, but wanted it to be appointed by the commission to make it official.

They also approved the purchase of three 15-foot Flex Wing Mowers at a cost of just over $43,000 and a 10-foot Flex Mower, all from Wichita Tractor of Hutchinson at a cost of $12,384.

They also approved an agreement with Horizons Mental Health Center in Hutchinson for behavioral services at the Reno County Correctional Facility. The two entities will basically split the cost with the county paying $2,466 monthly.
