HUTCHINSON, KS – This Easter weekend the Hutchinson Zoo will host their Eggstravaganza.
Previous years have included a typical egg race like other groups in the area. This year, the zoo will focus more on one of its primary goals, education.
Guests can pick up an Eggstravaganza card in the gift shop and look for the Eggstravaganza stations around the zoo. Each station will have an egg fact and a way for guests to mark one of the boxes on their card. When all six stations have been found and the card completely marked, guests can bring it to the zoo gift shop to redeem it for a free train ticket which can be used any time the train is running.
“This allows families to come any time between Thursday, March 24th and Sunday, March 27th during zoo hours to celebrate, instead of just one hour on one afternoon. Our goal is to get people into the zoo, to educate them, and encourage them to come back again,” said Jessica Wright, Education and Volunteer Coordinator.
Guests visiting on Easter Sunday will also get a chance to view the zoo animals enjoying their own Easter eggs.
“Our collection animals require enrichment to keep their minds stimulated, and you will find that our animals enjoy their very own egg hunts. Whether they bat them around, play with them in the water, or eat them immediately, the eggs are a nice way to get them to engage in natural behaviors,” said Becky Semke, Hutchinson Zoo Keeper.
