NEWTON, Kan. – Last week, Sergeant Jason Thompson of the Newton Police Department was presented an award from Desert Snow, a national criminal interdiction training organization at the National Interdiction Conference in Reno, Nevada for life saving action in the rescue of a kidnapping victim.
The award stems from actions occurring on January 23, 2015. Sgt. Thompson located and stopped a vehicle matching the description of a stolen vehicle from Texas. Sgt. Thompson’s experience led him to not believe the initial story of the vehicle’s occupants, and he investigated further.
Eventually it was learned the driver of the vehicle had taken the vehicle at gunpoint, then forced the owner into the car against her will, handcuffing and blindfolding her.
Thompson was able to safely take the driver into custody and rescue the victim from the vehicle.
