HUTCHINSON – The First Annual Central Kansas Youth Entrepreneurship Competition was held at the County Annex in St. John earlier this month.
Fourteen students from Hodgeman, Pawnee, Reno and Stafford counties participated and presented a total of ten business ideas.
The winner of the $1,000 first prize was Kathleen Miller, Reno County, who presented her business known as Piano Girl. She can customize music for someone’s wedding day or special event.
The $500 Second Place prize was awarded to DJ Peak and Corey Wenrich of Stafford County, for a presentation on a White Whole Wheat Bread Mix Blend that exceeds nutritional school standards while appealing to younger students.
The Third Place winner, receiving $250, was Marina Valadez of Stafford County, who has her own photography business and focuses on senior pictures and action shots for high school students in extracurricular activities.
The Fourth Place award of $150 was presented to Felicity Tepe, Hodgeman County, whose WeeStraw business makes small straw square hay bales.
