HUTCHINSON, Kan. – On Tuesday morning, Hutchinson Fire crews responded to the 8000 Block of E 4th for a grass fire.
Arriving units found approximately five acres burning with a driving north wind. Crews were able to control the fire and conduct mop up operations containing the fire to open pasture with no property loss.
The Hutchinson Fire Department responded 10 units initially including staff vehicles due to the very high fire danger and wind conditions, with four to five units able to conduct operations in a short period of time.
No injuries were reported.
Then around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday night, units responded to the 1600 block of Quail Ridge for a reported structure fire. They found a small fire on the exterior of the home caused by an exterior porch light. Occupants were home at the time of the call and attempted to extinguish the fire prior to fire units arriving. The fire was contained to the area of origin with units able to conduct overhaul operations with very little damage, evaluated at $1000.00. Occupants were able to return to their home following repairs.
