HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Starting early next month, the Kansas Department of Transportation will begin several projects to expand US-50 to include passing lanes on both sides of the highway east and west of the city of Burrton in Harvey County and approximately 7 1/4 miles east of the east junction of US-50 and K-61 in Reno County.
The preliminary phase of the expansion project will focus on constructing box extensions for
initial highway infrastructure. Project construction is scheduled to be completed in mid-October
depending on delays due to adverse weather conditions. Traffic will be carried through the work zone while the construction takes place. Traffic slowdown is expected with the possibility of narrowed lanes.
APAC Kansas, Inc., Shears Division from Hutchinson, is the prime contractor for
the $4,121,000 project east of Burrton. The $2,848,000 project west of Burrton, and the
$3,537,000 project in Reno County, which is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature.
