HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Fire Department crews responded to the 9100 Block of North Halstead for a brush fire just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
When they arrived, they found a two-acre fire that was burning in heavy brush and cedar trees. The fire was moving northeast with 30-foot-high flames at times. Additional units were requested to protect multiple homes that were in the path of the fire. Due to terrain, units from the Buhler Fire Department were requested for mutual aid.
The fire was controlled in about an hour and no homes were damaged. The fire grew to approximately 4 to 5 acres before being extinguished. The fire was possibly started by an unreported controlled burn that got out of control. No injuries were reported.
The Hutchinson Fire Department responded with 11 units, while Buhler Fire responded with five units.
