HUTCHINSON, Kan. — On Jan 4, 2016, several automobile burglaries were reported to have occurred in the city of Nickerson.
Arrested for these crimes are 19-year-old Kyle Nisbeth (top left) and 19-year-old Quentin Zumalt, (top right).
During the investigation of these burglaries, a possible suspect vehicle was found in the driveway of a residence in Nickerson.
After talking to the residents there and them being unaware of who the vehicle belonged to, the vehicle was seized as evidence, partly because there was items visible in the vehicle that appeared to be from the recent burglaries and also this vehicle was identified as a vehicle of interest in other recent crimes in Reno County.
Ultimately eight burglary reports were taken.
Over $7200 worth of property has been reported as stolen and approximately 1/4 of that property has been recovered.
Nisbeth remains in the Reno County Correctional Facility. Nisbeth’s bond is set at $57,500 and Zumalt’s is set at $44,000, however Zumalt has posted that bond according to the Sheriff’s jail log.
Nisbeth is jailed on eight counts of auto-burglary, burglary of a non-dwelling, 10 counts of theft and theft of a firearm. Zumalt faces eight counts of burglary and eight counts of theft.
Nisbeth made an appearance on the charges Tuesday morning and is now scheduled for a status hearing next week to see if the state has filed formal charges against him. Zumalt will make an appearance in court at a later date.
The investigation by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office continues.
