HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission gave the go-ahead to submit a bid to Ellis County for having their solid waste brought to Reno County.
The county currently charges a rate of $31.75 per ton and it’s estimated that Ellis County would bring approximately 13,725 tons to the county if they were to enter into an agreement.
That county currently sends its waste to the Western Plains Regional Landfill in Finney County, but that contract expires at the end of March. They’re apparently now accepting bids and officials with the local landfill here say they could accept their waste with no issues, especially now that McPherson County has now developed its own landfill and is no longer bringing much to Reno County.
The revenue coming in is also down according to landfill officials and the revenue is needed for coming projects including opening another cell and also moving the scale house at some point.
Whether Ellis County will accept the bid from Reno County is unknown with them stating in the paperwork sent to Reno County that they reserve the right to reject any and all bids.
