HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 35-year-old man was taken to jail Tuesday morning on drug related charges. Christopher Villela faces potential charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to the distribute, felony interference with law enforcement and battery of a law enforcement officer.
The arrest occurring just after 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 1700 block of East Blanchard.
It started when police were sent because of a 911 hangup call. They could hear in the background, a female yelling for someone to get up and a male with a slurred speech. When police arrived, they asked to make sure all four persons in the house were okay. They found the suspect in a bedroom and was initially unresponsive. They also found drugs, a scale and a rifle in the bedroom where Villela was sleeping. He eventually woke up and started struggling with officers and was kicking one of them on his legs.
In court, he claimed he was abused by the officers and that they tased him four times. He wanted to know how he could file a police brutality complaint. Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen suggested he could talk to an attorney on that issue.
He also asked about his bond of $14,000, but it really didn’t matter, because there is a warrant for his arrest in Texas.
He’ll be back in court on New Years Eve to see if the state has filed formal charges in the Kansas case.
