HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 32-year-old ex-con arrested at Walmart earlier this year for allegedly being in possession of meth, possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia all with intent to distribute was a no show in court.
Jerry L. Mahan II has been free on a $10,000 bond and was required to have GPS monitoring. But, according to statements made in court, he took the ankle bracelet off and threw in the street where a car then ran over it, destroying it.
The state had already filed a motion to revoke the bond because he has not responded to supervision while on bond. Judge Joe McCarville revoked the original bond and now there is a warrant for Mahan’s arrest with a bond of $75,000.
Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton indicated in court that if Mahan doesn’t turn himself in by the end of the year, the state will file a new charge of aggravated failure to appear.
The case itself starts with Mahan sitting on a bench and left a black case on the bench as he left. Someone found it and turned it in to customer service. They noticed that the contents didn’t look legal, so when Mahan came back to claim the case, police were called in. The case allegedly contained the meth and cocaine both at least 3.5 grams, but less than 100 grams.
Mahan was paroled back in January after serving time for drug distribution charges for a case in 2007. Other convictions involving drugs go back to a case in 2001.
The case is in limbo until Mahan either turns himself in or is arrested on the warrant by law enforcement.
