HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Reno County “Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster” (VOAD) is activating a disaster relief protocol in wake of the ice storm that caused extensive tree and limb damage in our community.

The VOAD will only offer assistance to those that are elderly or disabled and not able to physically and financially take care of the cleanup and removal of limbs and branches themselves.

Any resident who feels they would qualify for assistance needs to simply call 2-1-1 which operates 24-7 and let them know that they live in Reno County and are requesting assistance for tree and limb removal.

2-1-1 will collect the resident’s information and communicate to the VOAD. The VOAD in turn will supply volunteers to qualifying houses to assist with the cleanup and removal of limbs and branches.

Not within the scope of this effort would be assistance with limbs on roofs, high in trees, and near power lines. This will be effective starting Friday, Dec 4. The VOAD will accept applications for assistance through Dec. 31, 2015.

The Reno County VOAD could use volunteer assistance with the cleanup process. If you or a group you represent are interested in volunteering for the VOAD cleanup, please contact The Volunteer Center at 620.665.4960 for more information.
