WINTER STORM WARNING, 6 P.M. THURSDAY TO 6 A.M. SATURDAY

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WICHITA HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR FREEZING RAIN AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM CST SATURDAY.

BEGINNING THURSDAY NIGHT AND PERSISTING THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT, RAIN IS EXPECTED TO TRANSITION TO FREEZING RAIN…WITH EPISODES OF ICE ACCUMULATION EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT.

ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF A QUARTER TO AROUND HALF AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE BY FRIDAY NIGHT. THE COMBINATION OF THE ICE ACCUMULATION AND GUSTY NORTH WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WILL RESULT
IN SOME DOWNED TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES.

OTHER IMPACTS…INCLUDE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO VERY SLICK ROADWAYS FROM ICE ACCUMULATIONS.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER IS EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

COUNTIES EFFECTED IN OUR AREA INCLUDE RENO, MCPHERSON, MARION, CHASE, HARVEY, KINGMAN,
SEDGWICK AND HARPER.

STAFFORD, KIOWA, PRATT, CLARK, COMANCHE AND BARBER COUNTIES ARE UNDER AN ICE STORM WARNING.

BARTON AND RICE COUNTIES ARE UNDER A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY.

HERE IS THE FORECAST

Thanksgiving Day…Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Temperature falling to around 33 by 5 p.m. Breezy, with a north wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Thursday Night…Rain or freezing rain, becoming all freezing rain after 9 p.m. Low around 26. Blustery, with a north wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.3 of an inch possible.

Friday…Freezing rain. High near 26. Blustery, with a north wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday Night…A chance of freezing rain before midnight, then a chance of freezing rain and sleet. Cloudy, with a low around 25. Blustery, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday…A chance of freezing rain and sleet before noon, then a chance of freezing rain. Cloudy, with a high near 28. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday Night…A chance of freezing rain. Cloudy, with a low around 25. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday…A slight chance of freezing rain before noon, then a slight chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
