HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Fire crews responded to a couple of grass fires Monday afternoon in the Hutchinson area.
The first reported just afternoon noon was in the area of Brandy Lake and G Street. When crews arrived on scene, they found approximately five to six acres of grass and brush on fire about a quarter of a mile south of the intersection of Angela and Devena Drive along a railroad right of way. Crews had the fire under control there in about 30 minutes. The fire appears to be started by an arcing power line. Crews were assisted by the two units with the Burrton Fire Department and remained on scene for two hours.
During the initial stages of this fire, multiple units were released to respond to a second grass fire north and east of Hutchinson. That fire reported in the 4100 block of East 82nd. When they arrived there, they found approximately three to four acres on fire moving toward several outbuildings and homes.
Crews were able to keep the fire from any structures in the affected area. Seven units were on scene at this fire and remained on scene for about an hour extinguishing several hot spots and checking the perimeter of the fire.
