HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As expected, one of two Wichita brothers accused of drug charges a year ago entered a plea as charged before Judge Tim Chambers.
Twenty-nine-year-old Gary Jontra entered “guilty” pleas to the sale methamphetamine, conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and using a communications device to make a drug transaction.
Gary and his 30-year-old brother James were both arrested one year ago on Nov. 20, 2014, at the Kwik Shop at 8 N. Main in South Hutchinson when his brother allegedly exchanged $1,360 for approximately one ounce of meth, telling a drug unit officer that he sold the meth for a $100 profit.
Gary Jontra was driving the Honda and 911 Dispatch was able to confirm that he had two outstanding warrants. The phone used to make the drug transaction was found in the purse of Melissa Ray, who was a passenger in the vehicle.
Both sides will recommend the maximum sentence for each charge, however, recommend that he be placed on community corrections. Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton even asked that sentencing be earlier than normal so the defendant can be out of jail in time for Christmas. He has been jailed since his arrest a year ago.
Judge Chambers set sentencing for Dec. 18.
