HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Arena Building Committee held their monthly meeting Thursday as they get closer to the first bids on the $29 million structure.
JE Dunn reported to the committee that the project is about 3% over costs in the current design phase, but was essentially happy with what they have heard so far in talking to sub contractors for the project. The feel that they can find that 3% by the time the first bid package goes out in January. The also informed the committee that interest in the project from contractors is high.
The major unforeseen expense was a major line running from the arena to the city’s service. City Manager John Deardoff said that could be something the city handles outside the arena project. JE Dunn wanted to stress that this is just the design phase and not actual costs, which is why they have been in touch with sub contractors. The Committee also took time to discuss the advertising around the arena, especially along the scorers table, and they also looked over three finalist that would provide the art for the arena.
The next meeting of the Arena Building Committee is set for Dec. 10.
